About MCB

Mission and Values

Mountain Commerce Bank (MCB) is a state-chartered, FDIC-insured, privately held financial institution, serving East Tennessee with branches in Knox, Washington, and Unicoi counties.

It is our mission to grow and prosper, building long-term relationships based on top-quality service, high ethical standards, and core-funded, safe and sound assets. To this end, we base our operations and decisions on the fundamental principles defined by these eight core values: Integrity, Excellence, Leadership, Communication, Reality, Accountability, Teamwork, and Consideration. We believe that these values provide the appropriate framework to structure an organization that will meet the service needs of our customers, the performance requirements of our shareholders, and the regulatory standards of our authorities.

Our Beginnings

Originally chartered in 1910 as Erwin National Bank, “ENB” opened its doors in the small mountain town of Erwin, TN, near the Tennessee – North Carolina border. Under trusted family management for decades, the local community bank thrived and quickly became the market leader in the area. From the early days of surviving the Great Depression, through the dynamic and often volatile economic conditions of our country’s history, the Bank maintained its position as the premier local bank in the area.

East Tennessee, rich with scenic beauty and outdoor activities, stability and the vibrant energy of major universities and medical communities, provided an appealing backdrop for commercial finance and economic growth. Realizing this expanded market potential, Mountain Commerce Bancorp, a Federal Reserve Bank holding company, acquired ENB on September 1, 2006, recapitalizing it and changing the name to Mountain Commerce Bank.

Development

The founders and management of MCB, also natives and residents of the East Tennessee area, recognized that the Bank’s target communities enjoyed the “main street” appeal of a community bank, while seeking the financial opportunities and technological services of a big bank. Thus MCB was founded with the intention of providing its customers with hometown service and smart technology. With its strong team of experienced consumer, commercial and private bankers building and maintaining relationships throughout the Bank’s market areas, MCB began to expand its operations in Unicoi County, and then into Johnson City, and soon into Knoxville, growing the Bank from $83 million in assets to more than $300 million, in just over a year.

Currently, MCB has five locations in Knoxville, Johnson City and Unicoi County, with more on the way in Knoxville and Johnson City. This footprint, etched in the mountain south, represents MCB’s commitment to the loyalty and service of its small-town beginnings and its continuing connection with the local communities and subsequent growth markets. MCB contributes its growth to its never-ending focus on building relationships with the community it shares and serves.
